Artistic Statement
As an artist, I feel an important and integral part of understanding human nature is to first observe and appreciate the nature that surrounds us - the environment in which we live. I believe much can be learned from Mother Nature, and even a passing glance at the ample beauty She provides can reap benefits both in the understanding of ourselves and in our subsequent relationships with others. Indeed, we have only to look at the natural interactions played out daily around us to realize that a balanced life is one mirrored on nature's ability to harmonize within itself.
And so it is, that my continuous series of 'LandEscapes' becomes a concerted effort on my part to share my discoveries of nature, and to invite others to seek for themselves what nature may hold. I, myself, often encountered these truths deep within the unwavering strength and balance of the horizon, finding the solace and escape I frequently needed for inspiration in my life and work, and hence would come to title 'LandEscapes'.
The duality of the horizon - tranquility versus rage - and the intensities revealed in the passionate hues and forms that comprise this elusive line, are indeed what appealed to me in my search, and one whose hold over me will unlikely be relinquished any time soon.
